This morning pupils have been making animations and films, all portraying different aspects of the motor sport industry. The three groups have been given different sets and cars, then using their imaginations they have planned out their scenes. There’s a McLaren F1 pitstop, a Porsche garage and even a rally car race around the centre.
Firstly the groups planned out their scenes using a storyboard ensuring every step of the process was planned to perfection ready for shooting. The sets were then designed using Megablocks, cardboard, blutac and all sorts of other weird and wonderful props! Next it was time to start shooting. Using I Can Animate software, the pupils chose their camera angles and began the first scene of the animation. Stop motion animation techniques enabled the pupils to make small movements on their sets, taking a picture then playing them in sequence.
The pupils have just finished lunch and are now starting to edit their animations ready for the final showing this afternoon. Watch this space for their completed films!
Today the Summer School pupils have taken a tour around Silverstone Circuit.
Luckily we missed the terrible weather and managed to see some amazing sights. Firstly we visited the Paddock where the pit lane was filled with single-seater cars and Lotus Exige’s. A corporate experience day was taking place and we were fortunate enough to see them racing around the track. We visited the podium to celebrate like Lewis and followed in his footsteps into the International Media Centre, where the press conference usually takes place. After all this excitement we visited Silverstone’s Experience Centre, situated in the centre of the circuit. Here we saw some amazing super cars, ready for members of public to use during experience days.
Take a look at the photos to see where we’ve been!
Once we’d returned from the tour, we had some much needed lunch whilst watching the third installment of Herbie Fully Loaded. Then we cracked on with doing our comics. We used Comic Life to import photographs taken on the tour and added titles, captions and speech bubbles to explain what was happening in the photos. Tweaks where also made to the design and style of the comics. Have a look below to see what has been produced!
Today Unity students have been taking part in a TV show consisting of interviews of one another.
The pupils teamed up in pairs to gather information about their partner ready for the filming. By building a script and practicing their performance they then were really able to shine when the filming began. Each pair came up to the stage one at a time to interview each other. This wasn’t any normal interview, this was filmed just as it would be on a real TV set. There were lights shining, multi-camera set-ups and even floor managers directing the audience!
Ash is in the process of uploading and editing them now ready for publishing later!
Today we are welcoming eight students from Unity College for the first day of our Summer School.
Following their arrival at 10am, the pupils have toured the centre finding facts at Silverstone Circuit ready to feedback their information to the group. They then made press passes so that on Wednesday we can have full access to the circuit. They used PhotoBooth to take photos of themselves ready to place on their pass. Then dragged the photos into Comic Life where there was a template ready for us to adapt.
Lunch followed, with a chance to watch the first installment of Herbie Fully Loaded!
The pupils are now using information found around the centre about their racing driver heroes to make a PowerPoint presentation about them. They are inserting photographs onto their slides followed by facts about their hero.
Watch this space for their completed presentations and a video of their first day.
Yesterday we were visited by four key stage 3 Kic.in2.Study children who used Silverstone Circuit as a medium to practice their reporting skills. Whilst touring the circuit the children developed their filming skills using Flip cameras. We visited the podium where we reported on the bikes racing around the track, followed by a sneaky peak into Race Control where we witnessed the excitement of a minor accident.
Check out the photos and more info on the Kic.in2.Study site and view their completed videos at Radiowaves.
